You may have heard that we've recently released a wine spritzer called Origin. We're still gushing about its flavour profile. It is so reminiscent of island life that each sip really does take you to white sandy beaches and blue waters.
In addition to drinking Origin as is, we've also been experimenting with it by making cocktails that use Origin as their base. So today, we're sharing one of those cocktail success stories, the Origin Thyme Cocktail Spritz.

What Is A Wine Spritzer
Traditionally, a spritzer is a chilled, refreshing cocktail made by mixing wine or some liquors , think Aperol Spritz, with carbonated water, usually soda or sparkling water, and served over ice. The result is a light, bubbly drink that’s perfect for warm weather or whenever you need something easy and not too heavy to enjoy. Of course, when you see wine spritzers in your local store, made by wineries, the process is far more complex.
Commercial wineries produce canned wine spritzers by first fermenting and clarifying a base wine, often white or rosé, through methods like filtration and fining to ensure clarity and stability. This base wine is then blended with carbonated water in precise ratios to achieve the desired alcohol content. If a winemaker is striving for a specific flavour profile, they may also add natural fruit nectar or herbal syrups to get the desired end result.
Finally, the blended spritzer mixture is carefully touched with another dose of carbonation and canned using specialized equipment that preserves the fizz while preventing oxygen exposure. The entire process is done under strict quality control to maintain freshness, sparkle, and consistent taste in the final canned product, making it convenient and ready-to-drink for consumers.
Origin Thyme Cocktail Spritz Recipe
What you will need
4 oz of your favourite wine spritzer, preferably one that is fruit-forward. For our cocktail spritzer, we used Origin, a local Ontario Wine Spritzer.
2 oz Sparkling or Soda water
1.5 oz Sparkling wine, and don't use your Millésimes, we're going to blend it. An affordably priced Prosecco will do just fine.
1 drop of Angostura Bitters - this adds a level of flavour and structure to the drink that is very reminiscent of the islands
1 slice of lime
2 to 3 (depending on the size) thyme leaves. This will provide more Caribbean aromatics to the cocktail.
Directions
Get a large wine glass and add crushed ice
Pour your sparkling wine into the glass
Then add your wine spritzer into your glass
Once your spritzer has been added to the sparkling wine, add your soda water, or sparkling water, to the mixture
Add one drop of Angostura Bitters and give your mixture a gentle stir
Garnish with a slice of lime on the rim
Finish it off by adding your aromatic thyme leaves in your glass.
Enjoy!
