If there’s one drink that can truly elevate your warm-weather gatherings, it's a refreshing glass of rosé. Today, I’m thrilled to introduce you to a real treasure at the LCBO: the Black Bank Hill Runway Rosé 2023, locally grown and made in Beamsville, Ontario.

About Black Bank Hill Winery
Black Bank Hill Winery, located in Beamsville, Ontario, is a craft winery and vineyard in the Lincoln Lakeshore sub-appellation of the Niagara Escarpment wine region.
Established by Taylor Emerson in 2017, the winery spans a 22-acre estate that was previously left dormant, but has since been planted with a diverse range of grape varieties, including Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Viognier, Gewurztraminer, and Chenin Blanc. The vineyard benefits from heavy clay soils that were once part of a glacial lake bed, contributing to its terroir and quality of the grapes.
Winemaker Jonathan McLean, Taylor's cousin, who joined from the Okanagan Valley, brings a West Coast influence to the winemaking style, focusing on estate-grown fruit to produce riper, fuller wines with a balance of acidity and texture.
The winery emphasizes hand harvesting, wild fermentation, minimal intervention with no acid adjustments, and aging in neutral French oak barrels and stainless steel. Their portfolio includes reds like Syrah and Cabernet Franc, aromatic whites such as Viognier and Chardonnay, and distinctive blends like the Runway series named after the historic Beamsville Aerodrome.

About Black Bank Hill Runway Rose 2023
The Black Bank Hill Runway Rosé 2023 is a vibrant wine crafted from 94% estate-grown Cabernet Franc and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. It undergoes 48 hours of skin contact to extract its deep colour and complex aromas before co-fermentation in stainless steel. The colour on this wine is deeper than one would imagine when the word rosé is floated around.
The nose reveals enticing aromas of strawberry, raspberry, rhubarb, and sage. On the palate, it offers a dry, medium-plus acidity structure with stable phenolics. The palate is further extended with strawberry, ripe tangerine, ripe raspberry, and herbs.
This rosé is expressive, fresh, and lively, reflecting careful minimal intervention winemaking that emphasizes estate fruit quality.
The Black Bank Hill Runway Rosé 2023 can be found at the LCBO Vintages for $24.95.
